Sale and leaseback for the Darssbahn on the Warnow II sub-network in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
LHI has implemented a sale-and-lease-back structure for DB Regio for five FLIRT Akku battery hybrid vehicles manufactured by Stadler. The leasing structure is financed by Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen.
The vehicles will go into service on the renovated and revitalized Velgast–Barth–Zingst–Prerow line by summer 2027. What makes this section of track special is that it was decommissioned over 30 years ago. Its recommissioning is of great economic importance for the region, especially due to the further development of tourism in the eastern part of the state. In addition, the connection for the region is part of the mobility offensive, as it can be used without the construction of new overhead lines and can be operated with low emissions.
On sections of track with overhead lines, the trains run on conventional electricity with raised pantographs and charge their batteries. At the same time, braking energy is used for charging. When the contact wire ends, they continue their journey in battery mode.
LHI is thus expanding its involvement in the rolling stock sector to over 200 trains and a total of more than 60 million route kilometers per year.
