Portfolio expanded with wind farm comprising two onshore turbines in Saxony-Anhalt
With the Freist wind farm, LHI and the Versicherungskammer Group are continuing their joint sustainable strategy of investing in renewable energies.
The wind farm consists of two Vestas V-126 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 3.45 MW. Thanks to the large rotor blade diameter, the turbine is well suited for locations with low to moderate wind speeds. It is located in the municipality of Freist/Rottelsdorf in the Mansfeld-Südharz district of Saxony-Anhalt, approximately 20 km northwest of Halle (Saale) and approximately 90 km northwest of Leipzig.
The wind farm went into operation in 2020 and has been supplying electricity for three years. In 2022, the electricity produced was enough to supply around 7,000 two-person households, saving around 7,500 tons of CO2. What makes this project special is that a power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed for the first five years, which has led to the optimization of the wind farm.
“By investing in proven technology for generating renewable energy, the LHI Group, together with Versicherungskammer, is promoting the transformation of German energy policy. With the conclusion of the five-year PPA, the wind farm is characterized by a particularly stable remuneration structure”, says Dieter Seitz, Managing Director of LHI Capital Management GmbH.
“The large rotor blade diameter allows more wind yield to be achieved in less space, which goes hand in hand with lower electricity prices and less soil sealing”, says Georg Distler, Head of Infrastructure Investments at Versicherungskammer Group. “The investment is therefore highly consistent with our sustainable investment strategy. In this way, we are underlining our commitment to the NZAOA and contributing to a sustainable and stable electricity supply.”
In total, LHI manages 17 wind farms with a total rated output of 273 MW in the renewable energy portfolio for Versicherungskammer.
