LHI once again finances electric trains for DB Regio AG together with Bayern LB

Sale-and-lease-back for nine FLIRT XL vehicles on the Berlin-Szczecin route. The vehicles are manufactured by Stadler.

With our trusted partners DB Regio AG and Bayerische Landesbank, the LHI Group has successfully implemented another project in local rail passenger transport. The new partner in this project is VBB Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH. It has been commissioned by the states of Berlin and Brandenburg, each in their capacity as public transport authorities.

In November 2022, DB Regio AG was awarded the contract for transport services on the Berlin–Szczecin route. Nine FLIRT XL electric vehicles will be used. The vehicles are manufactured by Stadler.

The lease agreement has a term of 24 years and will commence when the timetable changes in December 2026. The vehicles are being financed entirely by Bayerische Landesbank.

Trains run on the RE9 Berlin-Südkreuz – Berlin Hauptbahnhof – Berlin Gesundbrunnen – Bernau – Eberswalde – Angermünde – Tantow – Stettin route, with an extension from Berlin-Südkreuz to Berlin Airport Terminal 1-2, and on the RE9V Angermünde – Tantow – Stettin route.

The electric vehicles on this route enable approximately 1.5 million train kilometers to be covered per year without emissions. “We are delighted that the completion of this project will enable us to make a further active contribution to resource- and environmentally-friendly local public transport,” said Stefan Wildgruber, Head of Structured Finance, Rolling Stock, at the LHI Group.

Vera Syhre, Sector Head Rail & Bus at BayernLB: “We would like to thank DB Regio AG and the LHI Group for placing their trust in us once again as a financing partner and are delighted to be able to drive forward the mobility transition a step further with the BEST transaction.
